Bangladesh Pakistan Ties: Bangladesh was born in the 1971 war between India and Pakistan, in which 90 thousand Pakistani soldiers surrendered before the Indian Army. This war started because the Pakistani Army was committing atrocities in the then East Pakistan (today’s Bangladesh). Seeing such a situation, PM Indira Gandhi had started a war against the neighboring country to save the Bengalis. Once again the current interim government of Bangladesh gave a lesson to the Pakistani government by reminding it of 1971.
Mohammad Tauheed Hussain, advisor on foreign affairs in the interim government of Bangladesh, said in a statement on Tuesday that we want to build good relations with Pakistan, but we cannot forget 1971. He further said that they will have to show courage and apologize in order to maintain good relations. Mohammad Tauheed Hussain, while answering a question related to Pakistan, said that we have no objection in improving relations, but we also cannot forget the horrific memories of 1971.
Statement on the meeting of Mohammad Yunus and Shahbaz Sharif
Recently, on September 25, the head of the interim government of Bangladesh, Mohammad Yunus, had a courtesy meeting with Pakistani PM Shahbaz Sharif during the United Nations General Assembly in New York. On this Mohammad Tauheed Hussain said that that meeting has nothing to do with the relationship. It is not that we have forgotten the things of 1971.
Bangladesh has made this demand on the issue of 1971
Bangladesh has long demanded an apology from Pakistan for 1971 and has insisted on international recognition of the genocide. Despite ups and downs in relations in the last 53 years, no solution has been found to this issue. On this issue, IT Minister of Bangladesh’s interim government, Nahid Islam, says that we want to resolve the 1971 issue with Pakistan. For a democratic South Asia we need to strengthen our relationship with each other.
