With Indian teammate Ravichandran Ashwin on his YouTube channel ‘DRS with Ash’ During the episode, Bumrah said, ‘When I came into the team (Ricky) Ponting was the captain and I was not playing regularly. I started playing more under Rohit’s captaincy, he had a lot of faith in me. He instilled a lot of confidence in me. ’’
He said, ‘‘And he (Rohit) saw me bowling in the nets, what kind of skills I had, so he always supported me and always told me to believe in myself and even in the initial stages He also had a lot of faith in me, so he used to give me important overs. ’’
He said, ‘‘Now this kind of trust has been formed. He has this trust because whatever kind of ground I asked him to decorate, he did that and that has made our relationship like this. ’’
Rohit is known for his calm minded personality and he leads the team by setting an example which has impressed Bumrah a lot. He said, ‘‘He is always very comfortable, some days don’t go well but he always keeps the atmosphere of the team simple and he has always tried to keep it very calm. These things helped me a lot as a cricketer. ’’
Bumrah said, ‘‘He has a lot of confidence and it has always been a good place for me as a bowler because I got the freedom to do what I wanted. It has been really beneficial for me as a bowler and it will be very important for me in the coming days as well. ’’
On being appointed the vice-captain for the ongoing series against Sri Lanka, Bumrah said that he would take the ‘post’. But if given a chance, he will never shy away from the responsibility of leading the team. Bumrah said, ‘‘I don’t want to chase things because I don’t want to. I am someone who believes that God has made a plan and everything will happen according to him, so I do not want to hinder that plan. I don’t want to change anything. ’’
He said, ‘‘I will do the role I am asked to do in the best possible way. I don’t want to change anything, when you are a senior member of the team you are always a leader, so this is just a position.’’
