Budget Session First Phase Completed: The proceedings of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were on Friday adjourned till March 14 and thus the first phase of the budget session in both the houses was completed. The next sitting of the Lok Sabha will now start at 4 pm on March 14 and the next sitting of the Upper House will start at 10 am on the same day.
Work productivity in the house was 121%
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla thanked the members for smooth functioning of the House and said that during this period the work productivity was 121 percent. Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh also expressed happiness on behalf of Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu and on his own behalf about the manner in which the Upper House was functioning in the first phase of the budget session.
15 hours 13 minutes discussion on President’s address
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, while referring to the business in the first phase of the budget session, said on Friday, “Instead of the allotted 12 hours for the discussion on the President’s address, the discussion took place in the House for 15 hours 13 minutes in which 60 members participated. ran away. 60 other members laid their written speeches on the Table.” He said that similarly, instead of 12 hours allotted for general discussion on the general budget, a total of 15 hours 33 minutes discussion took place in which 81 members participated and 63 other members. laid his written speeches on the Table of the House.

Underlining the active participation and positive cooperation of all the members in the first phase of the budget session, Birla said that despite the challenges of Corona transition, the MPs fulfilled their constitutional obligations with commitment by working till late night in the House, so that we can reach 121 Achieving high work productivity per cent. In the first phase of the budget session, hours worked beyond the stipulated time
In the Rajya Sabha, Deputy Chairman Harivansh said that during this time not even a single occasion had come when the House had to be adjourned due to compulsion (of disturbance and noise). He said that in the first phase of the budget session, the Upper House was working half an hour more than the scheduled time.
Harivansh said that the credit for this goes to every member of the House. He said that due to this the members could participate in the discussion on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address. He said that 51 starred questions were asked in the House in the first phase of the budget session, while 50 issues were raised through special mentions and 71 issues of public importance were raised during Zero Hour. The Deputy Chairman congratulated all the sections of the House for functioning with a positive spirit and expressed hope that the House would continue to function in this spirit in future also.
Budget session started on 31st January
It is noteworthy that the budget session of Parliament began on 31 January with the President’s address to the joint sitting of both the houses. The Economic Review was presented in both the houses on the same day. On February 1, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget for the financial year 2022-23. From February 2, first the President’s Address and then the General Budget were discussed in both the houses.
The second phase of the budget session will be held from March 14
Prime minister Narendra Modi Reply to the discussion on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address in the Lok Sabha on February 7 and in the Rajya Sabha on February 8. At the same time, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman answered the discussion on the budget in the Lok Sabha on Thursday and in the Rajya Sabha on Friday. The second phase of the budget session is scheduled to run from March 14 to April 8, in which other bills can be taken up along with passing the Demands for Grants, Appropriation Bill and Finance Bill.
