‘Brij Bhushan Singh can be prosecuted and punished’, reveals police charge sheet

Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh Case: The court on Friday (July 7) summoned Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the outgoing president of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), in connection with the sexual harassment allegations against women wrestlers. In this, the court has asked Brij Bhushan Singh to appear on July 18. Meanwhile, recently a big disclosure came from the charge sheet filed by the police in the Rouse Avenue Court.

According to the charge sheet, the complainant mentioned six places where BJP MP Brij Bhushan Singh molested her. Based on the investigation so far, Singh can be prosecuted and punished for crimes like sexual harassment, molestation and stalking.

In this charge sheet, there is talk of statement of total 21 witnesses. Out of this, six have recorded their statement under CrPC 164.

What’s in the charge sheet?
The police have included photographs of several events and some videos in the pan drive in the charge sheet. There are many photographs provided by the wrestlers. One of these photos is of wrestler Vinesh Phogat with Brij Bhushan Singh at Sirifort Stadium.

What did Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh say?
Brij Bhushan Singh was questioned by Times Now reporter about the charge sheet in the whole case, then he said that I have nothing to speak and spice you up. During this, when he was asked about his resignation, he removed the mike.

What did Congress say?
Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi tweeted, “Law and morality say that the accused of atrocities against women should be removed from his post, fair investigation should be done, arrested and punished in the court, but in the BJP government, the country’s Why is the accused of torturing female sportspersons who raise the standard protected, why is the matter being suppressed, why is the matter being hushed up in the investigation?

He asked, “Why is the entire government silent on this matter? Why is the accused still in BJP and why no action has been taken?

Addressing a press conference on behalf of the Congress party, spokesperson Supriya Shrinate said, “The Delhi Police in its chargesheet has accused BJP MP Brij Bhushan Singh of sexual harassment, stalking and intimidation.” The police have asked the court to take action to prosecute and punish Brij Bhushan Singh.

He said that it is ironic that women wrestlers had made allegations of sexual harassment against Brij Bhushan Singh in front of the committee formed in January 2023, but the committee ignored the allegations. Not only this, the committee kept silence on the allegations against Brij Bhushan even in the report submitted to the Sports Ministry.
