Srinagar Tempreture: The night temperature has gone below zero at most places in Jammu and Kashmir, while the recent snowfall in the higher reaches has increased the severity of cold in the valley. Officials gave this information on Thursday (21 November 2024). Officials said the minimum temperature in Srinagar and other places in Kashmir remained below zero for the second consecutive night and the mercury dropped below the freezing point.
Last week, there was snowfall in many high altitude areas of Kashmir due to which the cold increased in the entire valley. According to the weather office, the minimum temperature in Srinagar was recorded at minus 0.4 degrees Celsius. Last night the temperature here was recorded at minus 0.7 degrees Celsius. However, the night temperature was still 1.1 degrees Celsius below normal for this time of the season.

The minimum temperature in Qazigund was recorded at minus two degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature in Pahalgam was recorded at minus 3.2 degrees Celsius and was the coldest place in the valley. The minimum temperature in Gulmarg ski resort was recorded at 0 degrees Celsius, while in Kupwara it was minus 0.9 degrees Celsius.
Where did the temperature reach freezing point?
Officials said that the minimum temperature in Kokernag reached 0.7 degrees Celsius above the freezing point. The Meteorological Department said that this weather condition will continue till November 23. There is a possibility of cloudy sky and light rain in some places of Kashmir (especially in higher altitude areas) on 24th of this month.
In Shopian of South Kashmir, the mercury was recorded at minus 3.9 degrees Celsius, while in Pahalgam of South Kashmir it was recorded at minus 3.7 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department in Kashmir has predicted drought conditions to last till November 23.
