Devendra Fadnavis On BMC Election Update: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Tuesday that the Baramati constituency, a stronghold of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), comes under the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) ‘Mission Maharashtra’. Fadnavis said that the election of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will be fought jointly by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and BJP.
BJP’s Maharashtra unit president Chandrashekhar Bawankule had visited the Baramati constituency, considered a stronghold of the NCP. Fadnavis was questioned in this regard. In response, Fadnavis said that ‘BJP has created Mission India and Mission Maharashtra. Since, Baramati is in Maharashtra it clearly comes under Mission Maharashtra. Bawankule has said that the alliance of BJP and Shinde-led Shiv Sena will win the Baramati seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, from where NCP’s Supriya Sule is currently an MP. BJP leader Chandrashekhar Bawankule had also claimed that the alliance would win 45 of the 48 Lok Sabha seats in the state.
What did Fadnavis say about Jyotiba Phule and Savitribai Phule?
Fadnavis, who holds the Home portfolio, said there was no need to compulsorily display the photographs of social reformers Mahatma Jyotiba Phule and Savitribai Phule at the state secretariat in Mumbai, as they live in people’s hearts. He said that government offices are run by rules, so such orders are issued many times. I think Mahatma Jyotiba Phule and Savitribai Phule have a lot of respect in the country.

Asked whether there is speculation that Maharashtra Navnirman Sena and Shinde-led Shiv Sena will contest the BMC election together, while the BJP will fight it alone, Fadnavis said all these are rumours. He said Shinde-led Shiv Sena and BJP will fight the BMC elections together. Bawankule had said that the BJP has started a program to reach out to every voter in Maharashtra to expand its base in 16 Lok Sabha seats, including Baramati, and win them in the next election.
