BJD Candidate List: Lok Sabha Elections Odisha’s ruling party Biju Janata Dal (BJD) released the third list of candidates for 2024 on Wednesday (April 3). Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s party announced the names of candidates for 5 Lok Sabha seats. Hours after joining the party, BJD nominated former BJP leader Bhrigu Bakshipatra from Baharampur and Parineeta Mishra from Baragarh Lok Sabha seat.
The party has canceled the tickets of two sitting MPs Chandrarani Murmu and Chandrashekhar Sahu. The party has given Lok Sabha ticket to Surendra Singh Bhoi from Balangir seat, Manjulata Mandal from Bhadrak seat and Dharnujay Sidhu from Keonjhar seat. Surendra Singh Bhoi had resigned from Congress last week and joined BJD.
Also announced 27 candidates for assembly elections
CM Naveen Patnaik also announced 27 candidates for the assembly elections. BJD has declared candidates for 20 out of 21 seats in Odisha. At the same time, the party has so far announced 99 candidates for 147 assembly seats in the state.
In today’s list released for assembly seats, 7 women candidates have been given tickets. The names of women candidates include Anusuiya Patra, Pritinanda Kanungo, Alka Mohanty, Deepali Das, Jayshree Kanhar, Suryamani Vaidya and Manjula Swain Aska.
BJD canceled tickets of these leaders
BJD has so far canceled tickets of seven MLAs and two sitting MPs. In the list of BJD MLAs, tickets of Parshuram Dhada, Ramesh Chandra Sai, Angad Kanhar, Bijay Shankar Das, Pritam Padhi, Pratap Jena and Rajkishore Das have been cut. However, instead of Pratap Jena, his son Ankit has got the ticket. In place of Rajkishore Das, his wife Preetinand Kanungo has been given the ticket.
Parshuram Dhada resigned from BJD just hours after the candidates were announced. He wrote a letter to Naveen Patnaik saying that I am resigning from the party with a very heavy heart. Former Phulbani MLA Debendra Kanhar has also resigned from the party. However, he has not revealed why he left the party.
