ONGC Oil Blocks: India has got great success in the direction of becoming self-sufficient in the production of crude oil. The country’s largest government oil company ONGC has succeeded in finding two oil and gas wells in the Arabian Sea in the Mumbai offshore region. The company has said that it has informed the Directorate General of Hydrocarbons (DGH) and the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas about this discovery. Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has congratulated ONGC for this discovery.
ONGC has named the first oil and gas well reservoir discovered under OALP (Open Acreage Licensing Policy) in the Mumbai offshore region as AMRIT. And in the second exploration block, the discovery has been named Moonga. ONGC told that both of these oil and gas discoveries are being assessed in detail.

ONGC said it has analyzed geological data and deployed advanced technology to successfully identify substantial oil and gas reserves within the OALP blocks. However, this is news of relief for India, which has to import 80 per cent of its crude oil consumption. Due to the new discovery, there can be a decrease in imports, then foreign exchange will be saved.
