Government’s clarification on opposition’s allegations

Sources said that during the ten years of the UPA government, where the total budget of the Railways was Rs 1.64 lakh crore, it increased to Rs 8.26 lakh crore in the Modi government. This also includes the budgetary provision for the current financial year 2023-24. The budget estimate of Railways in 2023-24 is Rs 2.24 lakh crore.
Expenditure on renewal of tracks
If we talk about the renewal of railway tracks, where about 47 thousand crore rupees were spent during the UPA government, while in the Modi government, it is estimated that 1.09 lakh crore rupees will be spent by the end of 2023-24. Officials said that in 2017, the National Rail Safety Fund was created, under which a target was set to spend one lakh crore on security related work in the railways by 2022 and more was spent. The tenure of this fund has now been extended for five more years.
