Manipur Violence: In view of the violence in Manipur, the Central Government has taken a big step. The Center has reintroduced the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, under which an area is declared “disturbed” to facilitate operations of security forces, in six police station areas of Manipur, including violence-hit Jiribam. The Union Home Ministry has ordered in a notification that this decision has been taken in view of the continuing unstable situation due to the ongoing caste violence there.
The police station areas where AFSPA has been re-imposed are Sekmai and Lamsang in Imphal West district, Lamlai in Imphal East district, Jiribam in Jiribam district, Lemakhong in Kangpokpi and Moirang in Bishnupur. The new order has come after the decision of the Manipur government, in which these six are also included.
