Jammu: senior congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad K’s nephew Mubashir Azad joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday. During this, he said that he is impressed by the development work done at the ground level by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Mubashir Azad, son of Ghulam Nabi Azad’s youngest brother Liaquat Ali, also said that his uncle was “insulted” by the Congress leadership, which hurt him and broke ties with the Congress. However, Mubashir also said that he did not discuss with his uncle his plans to join the BJP.
Mubashir Azad and his supporters of BJP Jammu and Kashmir Other senior leaders including unit president Ravinder Raina and former MLA Dalip Singh Parihar welcomed the party. Raina termed their joining the BJP as a “decisive turning point” that would pave the way for young workers from Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban districts of the Chenab Valley region to join the party.
He said, “The BJP is moving ahead rapidly by bringing political leaders of opposition parties, social workers from all communities, Hindu, Muslim, Gurjar, Bakarwal and Pahari.” In April 2009, Azad’s brother Ghulam Ali also joined the BJP. had attended. Mubashir Azad said, “The (Congress) party is embroiled in infighting… while under Modi’s leadership work for the welfare of the people is being done on the ground.”
He said that the way Congress treated former Chief Minister (Ghulam Nabi) Azad, one of the party’s charismatic leaders, has hurt the sentiments of the general public. Mubashir said, “The Prime Minister praised him for his service to the nation, but the party sidelined him.” He had written a letter to Gandhi demanding organizational reforms.
