A few months are left for the Delhi Assembly elections, before which BJP has suffered a big setback. Veteran BJP leader Brahm Singh Tanwar has joined the Aam Aadmi Party. ‘AAP’ convenor Arvind Kejriwal included him in the party. Brahm Singh Tanwar has won the assembly elections from Mehrauli in 1993 and 1998 and from Chhatarpur in 2013.
Tanwar has been a continuous member of the party since its inception. Brahm Singh Tanwar had gone to jail during the ‘Emergency’ in 1975. Tanwar contested his first election in 1977 and won as an independent candidate and became a corporation councilor. In this way, Brahm Singh Tanwar has been MLA thrice and councilor thrice.
There is a possibility that Brahm Singh Tanwar may contest elections from Chhatarpur on AAP ticket. Kartar Singh Tanwar, the sitting MLA from Chhatarpur, had recently left AAP and joined BJP.
After joining ‘AAP’, Brahm Singh Tanwar said, “I have made up my mind to break ties with BJP and work with Arvind Kejriwal. I have served the entire NCR in my area till now. Now with Arvind Kejriwal. Together we will serve our area and support AAP government in the upcoming elections.
On this occasion, Arvind Kejriwal said that today is a happy day for AAP. Brahm Singh Tanwar is a big face in Delhi politics. Has been serving the people of Delhi in different ways for 50 years. Was MLA from Chhatarpur twice and Mehrauli once. He has contributed a lot to the development of Delhi. Today he is leaving BJP and joining AAP. Influenced by the actions of the Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi and Punjab, the family of ‘AAP’ is growing.
