NIA Raid in Jharkhand: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday (January 4, 2025) conducted searches at several places in Bokaro district of Jharkhand in connection with the attack on security forces in February 2024 by activists of the banned CPI (Maoist) terrorist organization.
NIA teams searched the premises of suspects and overground workers (OWG) at eight places. The NIA seized digital devices like laptops, mobile phones and memory cards as well as SIM cards, pocket diaries and incriminating documents from here. According to NIA investigation, the suspects/OGWs whose premises were searched were linked to members of CPI (Maoist) and used to provide logistics support and help in collecting levy money.
Security forces were attacked
The case pertains to the illegal activities of the leaders and cadres of NIA-RNC CPI (Maoist), and the attack on security forces by the organization in the forest area of PS Chatro-Chatti, Bokaro. On the day of the incident, the commanders of the banned organization had camped in the forest area (Sundari Pahari) along with 15-20 Naxalite cadres to commit crimes, recruit youth and collect levies and plot to attack the security forces.
The terrorists had escaped from the dense forests
After receiving the input, a team of Jharkhand Police and CRPF started a search operation, during which the Naxalites started firing indiscriminately. The security forces retaliated, but the Naxalites were successful in escaping by taking advantage of the dense forest and bushes.
However, during the search operation, the local police recovered digital devices, Naxal literature and other objectionable material and registered a preliminary case under various sections of the IPC, Arms Act, Explosive Substances Act, CLA Act and UA(P) Act. NIA took over the investigation and re-registered the case in June 2024. The agency is continuing its investigation.
