Bharat Jodo Yatra: ‘Congress will not contest on only 200 seats in the name of opposition unity’, Jairam

Bharat Jodo Yatra News: Congress spokesperson Jairam Ramesh made a big statement on Sunday regarding the unity of the opposition. He said that the opposition parties should understand that the only alternative to the BJP at the national level is the Congress. It is impossible that in the name of opposition unity, Congress will contest only 200 seats in the next Lok Sabha elections.

Jairam Ramesh said that the unity of the opposition means ‘taking something and giving something’ and now that time is gone, when Congress used to give only to the opposition parties. His statement is important in the sense that in recent times, big leaders of the opposition stayed away from ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ despite invitation. Let us inform that some leaders including Samajwadi Party chief and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Akhilesh Yadav are seen lobbying for the third front.

Our aim is not opposition unity

In an interview given to ‘PTI-Bhasha’, Jairam Ramesh said that the purpose of the yatra was never opposition unity. This (opposition unity) could be the result of the yatra. We did not think that we should take out ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ to bring unity in the opposition. The Congress leader said that our aim is to strengthen the organization, to infuse a new life in the Congress party, for this the yatra was taken out. Many political parties were invited, some came, some did not.

Ramesh emphasized that the change that has come in the party due to ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’, the change that has come in the image of Rahul ji, the new life that has come in the organization, can be a result of opposition unity. Along with this, he said that we want constructive opposition unity.

Presently focus on Bharat Jodo Yatra

The Congress General Secretary said that at present I am only thinking of ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’. I agree that if the Congress cannot strengthen itself, then opposition unity will remain a dream. Opposition unity does not mean that the Congress party will contest the Lok Sabha elections on only 200 seats. It is impossible. The opposition parties should also understand that the only national alternative to the BJP is the Congress.

Regarding the effect of the visit, he said that in the states we have passed through, even where we have not passed, a new zeal and new enthusiasm is being seen and it is also being felt. He further said that the Congress has got a lifeline from the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

There was a radical change in the image of Rahul Gandhi.

Ramesh also said that after this visit there has been a ‘revolutionary change’ in the image of Rahul Gandhi. He said that the way his image was maligned by the social media people of BJP, that thing has now become history. Criticism can be of anyone, but now those people cannot say anything about Rahul ji personally.
