On the other hand, senior West Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee on Sunday said the district committees of the Trinamool Congress have been asked to take action against disgruntled party leaders who voted as independent candidates for the February 27 elections to 108 municipalities. Nomination has been filed in the form. A section of rebel TMC leaders has entered the fray as independent candidates.
Angered by his decision, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday warned him to withdraw his candidature or face action. TMC general secretary Chatterjee said, “Not everyone can become a candidate, some of them who were not given party tickets to contest elections are contesting as independents.” Chatterjee said dissatisfied candidates have been asked to withdraw their nominations and campaign in favor of official candidates. At the same time, they have been warned that if they continue with this attitude, then action will be taken against them.
