Indian Premier League 2023 Auction: The Board of Control for Cricket in India has rejected the request of all the franchises to extend the auction date. Recently, the franchisees involved in IPL had requested BCCI to extend the auction date of IPL 2023 in view of Christmas. They said that due to Christmas being near, the foreign staff would not be able to participate in the IPL auction. However, the board is considering allowing foreign staff to participate in the auction through video conferencing. The mini auction for the Indian Premier League 2023 will be held in Kochi on 23 December.
Foreign staff can join through video-conferencing
Speaking to InsideSports, a BCCI official said, “We know it is going to be a bit difficult for everyone. That’s why earlier the date of auction was fixed on 16th December. But later the auction date was agreed upon on 23 December. It will be a bit difficult for foreign staff. But we also have matches before and after Diwali. That’s why everyone has to manage. The official further said, we will consider video-conferencing in the meeting of the franchisees before the auction. If everyone agrees, I don’t see any reason not to allow it.

Despite the request of the franchisees, the BCCI refused to change the auction date. Most of the franchisees said that December 23 is close to Christmas. According to the BCCI official, this request of the franchises was rejected. He further said, we understand that some franchise officials will be on Christmas holidays. But there is no possibility to change the date. Changing the date would mean redoing everything. On the other hand, if seen, all the franchises of IPL have mostly foreign staff.
