India Bangladesh Relations: After Sheikh Hasina was out of power, the activities of Pakistan supporters have started increasing rapidly in Bangladesh. Recently, former dean of Dhaka University and controversial Bangladeshi professor Shahiduzzaman made provocative statements against India. He appealed to “counter” India by partnering with Pakistan.
Shahiduzzaman participated virtually in an international conference held in Islamabad, which was organized by Rafah International University and Pakistan Civil Society. He described Pakistan as a historical partner of Bangladesh. He said that we are linked by historical bonds and we have always felt the need of each other.” Through this statement, he called for strengthening Bangladesh-Pakistan relations.
Called Hindutva the enemy
In his speech, Shahiduzzaman termed Indian Hindutva as the enemy of Bangladesh and Pakistan. He said that both the countries should unite and face the “great enemy”. Further, while discussing the increasing negativity towards India since the formation of the interim government in Bangladesh, he mentioned the recent establishment of direct sea connectivity between Chittagong and Karachi. This contact has become possible for the first time after the creation of Bangladesh.
Demand for nuclear agreement and military cooperation
Shahiduzzaman has been in the news earlier also for his controversial statements. He advocated a nuclear deal with Pakistan. He believes that Bangladesh should acquire nuclear capability against India. He had said that Pakistan is the most reliable security ally of Bangladesh, while termed India as a big threat.

Advocating the purchase of JF-17 fighter planes
Recently Shahiduzzaman suggested purchase of JF-17 fighter planes from Pakistan. Also, there was talk of supporting separatist groups in the north-eastern states of India. At the same time, after the removal of Sheikh Hasina from power, possible changes in the policies of Bangladesh may increase challenges for India. During this period, India’s security interests may be affected by the growing relations between Bangladesh and Pakistan. At the same time, the anti-India atmosphere seems to be intensifying during the interim government.
Professor Shahiduzzaman of Dhaka University previously wanted nuclear bomb from Pakistan.
Now he is asking Bangladesh to buy J-7 (J-17, he is dumb) to deter India and also use them to secede Assam and Manipur from #India,
