Bangladesh Jatiya Party Offices Attacked: Jatiya Party, which is in alliance with former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League, said on Friday (November 1, 2024) that protesters have set fire to its offices. Hussain Mohammad Ershad had founded Jatiya Party. The party was part of the Awami League-led Grand Alliance and participated in the last three general elections, while other parties boycotted it.
According to news agency ANI, there was anger among the protesters regarding the proposed rally in Dhaka on Saturday. In the Kakrail area of the capital Dhaka on Thursday (31 October 2024), protesters under the banner of students, workers and the public brought a torch procession in front of the central office of the Jatiya Party, after which violent clashes took place. The protesters vandalized party offices, pulled down signboards and threw ink on the photograph of party founder Ershad.

Seeing the situation, police and army were deployed in front of the Jatiya Party office. Jatiya Party chief Ghulam Muhammad Quader said the protesters were “dividing the country”. According to Kader, “They are ignoring everyone else, dividing the country into ‘pure’ and ‘impure’ factions. They decide who is guilty and who is not. Once they find someone guilty So there is no scope for clarification.”
On the other hand, the protesters alleged that the incident on Thursday (31 October 2024) occurred when Jatiya Party members attacked their procession. Gono Adhikar Parishad leader Shakeeluzzaman said, “We were taking a torch procession in front of the Jatiya Party office. When Jatiya Party terrorists threw bricks at us from the rooftop.”
‘He set himself on fire in his office’
According to the protesters, “Terrorists of the Jatiya Party set fire to their own office and fled. Shakeeluzzaman alleged that the Jatiya Party worked as an ally of the fascist Awami League in the elections of 2014, 2018 and 2024.”
