Bangladesh Court Order on Sheikh Hasina: A Bangladesh tribunal on Thursday (December 5) banned the telecast of ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s “hate speech”. Deposed former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is accused of killing protesters during the August Revolution. Due to which he had to leave the country.
Bangladesh’s International Criminal Court (ICT) is investigating Sheikh Hasina on several charges, including “mass murder” during the August conflict. After which he was forced to leave the country and flee to the neighboring country India.
What did the prosecutor say on banning Hasina’s speeches?,
“Sheikh Hasina is currently accused in several cases which are being investigated by the tribunal,” prosecutor Golam Monawar Hussein Tamim told reporters. He further said, “We have demanded a ban on the broadcast of his hate speech, as it could hinder the legal process or intimidate witnesses and victims.”
He said, ‘Confirming that ICT has agreed to implement this ban.’ The prosecutor added, “If his speeches continue to be broadcast, it will become difficult to bring witnesses to the tribunal.”
Tribunal’s order came after Sheikh Hasina’s address
This order of Bangladesh Tribunal has come a few days after former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave a virtual address at the program of Awami League workers organized in New York. In her address, Sheikh Hasina had accused the key leader of Bangladesh’s interim government, Muhammad Yunus, of “mass murder”.

ICT was established by Sheikh Hasina
In 2010, Bangladesh’s then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina established the ICT to investigate atrocities committed during the country’s 1971 independence war against Pakistan. Over the years, ICT has given death sentence to many prominent political opposition leaders.
Allegations are regularly leveled against the court
The court has been regularly accused of not meeting fair trial standards and of being viewed as a means by Sheikh Hasina to eliminate her rivals.
Interim government demands extradition of Hasina from India
The interim government led by Muhammad Yunus has sought the extradition of ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from India so that she can be tried by a tribunal.
