Texas Transgender Bill: The Texas Legislature of America has approved a bill, in which treatment related to hormones and surgery will be banned for transgender children. The people of the Democrats party had expressed strong opposition against the passing of this bill. Despite this, the Texas Legislature approved the bill related to the ban.

If the bill is signed in Texas, then this state will become the largest state to ban the treatment of transgender minors. However, according to this bill, the ban will not affect the transgender children who are already undergoing treatment, but they will be barred from taking further medicines.

Ban on giving surgery and medicine to doctors
Under this law, doctors will be banned from performing mastectomy or surgery. As a result of which sterilization, removal of healthy tissue or body parts will be banned. They will also be barred from prescribing drugs and medical consultations that may lead to temporary or permanent infertility. The controversial bill now awaits the governor’s signature to become law.

The measure is one of several proposed by the Republican-dominated legislature targeting transgender individuals. That same day, the State House introduced another bill that would require athletes in high schools and colleges to compete based on the gender listed on their birth certificates.

why does bill matter
Texas is on course to become the largest state to ban medical treatment for transgender children. Apart from this, Texas has joined at least 14 other states which have imposed such bans. It is estimated that there are approximately 30,000 transgender children aged 13 to 17 living in the state, comprising about 1 percent of individuals in that age group, according to the Williams Institute (a research center focused on LGBTQ).

The bans are part of a nationwide effort by Republican leaders to limit medical care for transgender children, as well as draw discussions and demonstrations around gender from schools.
