Maharashtra News: Mumbai Police on Monday (December 9) requested for the custody of 13 accused arrested in the murder case of Nationalist Congress Party leader and former Maharashtra MLA Baba Siddiqui. Police told the court that the role of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi in this murder has not yet been revealed, while his brother Anmol Bishnoi is running a separate gang.
Actually, Baba Siddiqui was shot dead on October 12 in Nirmal Nagar area of Bandra. Police have so far arrested 26 people including alleged shooter Shivkumar Gautam. Anmol Bishnoi is a wanted accused in this case. Police invoked stringent sections of the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA) against 26 accused arrested on November 30. Of the 26 accused arrested in this case, 13 were produced in the MCOCA court on Monday, from where they were sent to police custody till 16 December. The remaining accused are in judicial custody.
‘Need to connect small links’
Mumbai Police, through the special government pleader, requested the court to grant custody of the accused, saying that there are many small links in the case and all of them have to be connected to complete the investigation, for which the custody of the accused is required.
‘Financial aspect should be investigated’
Police told the court that investigation has found that Anmol Bishnoi had sent Rs 40,000 to accused Nitin Sapre and the financial aspect of the case should be investigated.
Sent to police custody till 16 December
The prosecution told the special court that Anmol Bishnoi’s gang was active in states like Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh and “he was trying to establish his supremacy as the leader of the gang.” The police also told the court that Bishnoi and his brother are now running separate gangs. After hearing the arguments of the prosecution and defense, the court sent the 13 accused to police custody till 16 December.
