Avatar The Way Of Water Box Office: James Cameron’s Film Gets Close To Rs 100 Crore Milestone

New Delhi: The 2009 film ‘Avatar’s sequel,’Avatar: The Way of Water‘, premiered to rousing acclaim in Indian theaters and has since garnered praise for its outstanding visual effects. The James Cameron-directed film collected a whopping Rs 40 crore at the box office on its opening day.

In the Indian market, ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ now ranks as the second-highest box office opening. The first was the 2019 Marvel superhero flick ‘Avengers: Endgame’, which brought in Rs 53.10 crore on its first day of release.

The movie surpassed all expectations and saw a significant increase in its haul on Day 2, December 17. ‘Avatar 2’ is expected to exceed the Rs 100 crore revenue threshold in just two days of its release. Early trends indicate that ‘Avatar 2’ completed Day 2 with earnings between Rs 44 and Rs 46 crore.

According to Box Office India, the South Indian markets of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka were largely responsible for the success of ‘Avatar 2’.

In the first film in the ‘Avatar’ series, humans are colonizing Pandora, a moon that can support life and is home to the Na’vi, a native species with human-like abilities. Humans are drawn to Pandora because it has a precious and rare material.

As the two main characters explore Pandora and venture to new locations, Jake Sully’s romance with Ney’tiri, played by Zoe Saldaa, takes center stage in the ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’.

IANS review of the film reads: ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ doesn’t disappoint even one bit. It takes viewers on a wonderful, colorful ride to a place named Pandora inhabited by the blue-skinned humanoids, the Na’vi. who are over nine feet tall and have been attacked by humans seeking habitable planets away from a dying planet Earth. By all means, it is an incredible awe-inspiring place that is bound to make viewers truly engaged. The sequel takes us back to the original many times during the journey, back to the time when 3D was reintroduced to the then generation of film buffs, and the film had used CGI like nobody else had by then.

‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ premiered in Indian theaters on December 16—13 years after ‘Avatar’s initial release.
