Bangladeshi Hindu: Cases of atrocities on Hindus are continuously coming to light from Bangladesh. Meanwhile, a case of treason has been registered against 18 Hindus for hoisting the saffron flag in Chittagong, Bangladesh. 2 people have been arrested in the case. There is resentment among the minorities regarding the incident.
Pundarik Dham president Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari is also among the accused facing treason case. He said that eighteen Hindus have been charged with treason in the case of hoisting the saffron flag, which shows how minorities are being selectively targeted in Bangladesh.
The protest is not against the Bangladesh government
Chinmay Krishna Das Brahmachari said the case appeared to be a vendetta, coming at a time when Hindu organizations had held a large meeting in Chittagong demanding a law and a tribunal to protect minorities. He said that the protest is not political nor against the Bangladesh government, but to put pressure on the administration to protect the rights of minorities.
Names of 15 to 20 unknown people also included in the complaint
In fact, apart from the 18 Hindus who have been charged with treason, 15 to 20 unidentified people have been included in the complaint, in which there is scope for adding names. The incident is of 25th October. When Hindu organizations held a huge rally in Chittagong regarding their eight-point demands. The eight-point demands at the rally included formation of a tribunal to prosecute those committing atrocities on minorities, bringing a law on minority protection and setting up a ministry for minorities.
A case of treason was registered on behalf of Firoz Khan at Kotwali police station in Chittagong on October 30 regarding this rally. According to the Bangladesh Penal Code 1860, the punishment for treason can be up to life imprisonment. Communal sentiments have been strong in Bangladesh, causing the Hindu population to decline from 22% in 1951 to below 8% now. According to the Hindu American Foundation, between 1964 and 2013, more than 11 million Hindus fled Bangladesh due to religious persecution.
