On the other hand, the CBI has closed the file of Atiq Ahmed after filing his death report. Special CBI Judge Ajay Vikram Singh has fixed the next hearing for prosecution evidence on May 19.
Along with closing Atiq’s file, the court has fixed the date of May 19 for hearing and testimony of other accused. The court has closed the case saying that the accused has died, so there is no need for any formalities. At the same time, Mohammad Umar, accused in the kidnapping case of Atiq’s son and property dealer Mohit Jaiswal, was presented in the court through video conferencing.
Court sought report from Jail Superintendent Lucknow
Umar’s lawyer Vijay Mishra has given an application in the court stating that the jail administration is not allowing him to meet Umar. The lawyer said that it is his constitutional right, but the jail administration is trying to deprive the accused Umar of the right to have a lawyer of his choice and to defend himself. Advocate Mishra said that he tried to meet his client several times, but was stopped every time. Taking cognizance of this petition, the court has sought a report from the Jail Superintendent, Lucknow.
