Amit Shah In Manipur: Union Home Minister Amit Shah reached Manipur on Monday (May 29). Soon after reaching the state, he met Chief Minister N.K. Biren Singh, held a meeting with ministers, senior leaders and officials. The Union Home Minister is on a four-day visit to Manipur. During this, he will take stock of the situation arising out of the violence in the state.
Home Minister Amit Shah reached Imphal’s Bir Tikendrajit Imphal International Airport by a special plane from Delhi. PTI sources said that Amit Shah may hold several meetings on Tuesday (May 30) to assess the situation and plan to restore normalcy. Along with this, he can also address the press conference on Wednesday (May 31) and announce the steps taken to control the ongoing violence in the state.
So far more than 75 died in caste violence
Security sources told that he can return from Imphal on Thursday (June 1) morning. This is Amit Shah’s first visit to the state since the outbreak of caste violence in Manipur. Over 75 people were killed in caste clashes in Manipur after a tribal solidarity march was organized in the hill districts on May 3 to protest against the Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.
What did CM N Biren Singh say?
Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh had told on Sunday (May 28) that around 40 armed militants involved in arson of houses and firing on people have been killed since the security forces launched the operation to restore peace in the state. Due to fresh incidents of violence, the district authorities have reduced curfew relaxation of 11 hours to only six and a half hours in Imphal East and West district.
CM gave strict warning to those spreading rumors
In the midst of ongoing caste violence in the state, the government has given a stern warning to those spreading rumours. The Chief Secretary of Manipur said that strict action will be taken against any person found creating or spreading fake news, rumors or misinformation.
