India Taliban Meeting: India has taken a big step to strengthen its relations with Afghanistan. India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri met Taliban government’s Foreign Minister Maulvi Amir Khan Muttaki in Dubai on Wednesday. Political and economic relations were discussed in detail in this meeting.

Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaki thanked India for providing humanitarian aid to Afghanistan. He said that Taliban wants to maintain relations with India as an important economic country.

India’s help and cooperation
Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that India and Afghanistan have historical relations. India has provided humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan in the last three and a half years and has expressed willingness to cooperate in infrastructure projects.

During the meeting, Taliban Foreign Minister assured India of security and said that there is no threat of any kind from Afghanistan. This assurance has been given at a time when tension on the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan is at its peak.

Chabahar Port and Trade
Both sides discussed increasing trade through Chabahar Port. This port can play an important role in further strengthening the trade relations between India and Afghanistan.

Promotion of visas and trade relations
The Taliban demanded increased visa-related facilities for Indian students, businessmen, and patients. The Taliban said in a statement that both sides have agreed to facilitate trade and visas.

This meeting may increase Pakistan’s concerns, especially when tension continues on the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan. Taliban had recently attacked Pakistan’s military posts, which further increased the tension between the two countries.
