America paid tribute to Manmohan Singh, said- ‘He was the one who brought US and India together’

Manmohan Singh Death: America has expressed condolences on the demise of former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. He has expressed his condolences towards the people of India. America said that Dr. Singh was one of the greatest supporters of the US-India strategic partnership. He laid the foundation of whatever India-America has achieved in the last two decades. Under the leadership of Dr. Manmohan Singh, India took a historic decision to take forward the nuclear cooperation agreement with America. This agreement was not only important for meeting the energy needs of India, but it also took the strategic and economic relations between the two countries to a new height.

The US administration further said in its statement that domestically, Dr Singh will be remembered for his economic reforms, which accelerated India’s economic growth. We mourn Dr. Singh’s passing and will always remember his dedication to bringing America and India closer together.

Civil nuclear agreement with America
Manmohan Singh had a major contribution in the civil nuclear agreement signed with America in 2008. This agreement changed India’s overall relations with America. This opened the way for strengthening the India-US strategic partnership in the areas of high technology and defence, especially in the field of nuclear energy research. Before that, after Manmohan Singh’s talks with the then US President George W Bush in July 2005, India and America announced that they would cooperate in the field of civil nuclear energy.

While addressing the joint session of the US Congress on July 19, Manmohan Singh highlighted in detail the need for India-US cooperation in the civil nuclear energy sector and also talked about India’s impeccable record in nuclear non-proliferation.
