Ukraine Russia War: The work of evacuating Indians trapped in Ukraine is going on. The Ministry of External Affairs has informed that there are 26 flight schedules in the next 3 days to bring back Indian citizens. Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla said that apart from Bucharest and Budapest, airports in Poland and the Slovak Republic will also be used to operate evacuation flights.
Harshvardhan Shringla said that an Air Force C-17 aircraft can fly to Romania at 4 am on Wednesday to bring back the Indians. At the same time, the IAF official informed that the C-17 transport aircraft of the Indian Air Force will leave for Romania tomorrow morning at 4 am from its home base in Hindon near Delhi.
The Foreign Secretary said, “When we issued our first advisory, there were about 20,000 Indian students in Ukraine, since then about 12,000 students have left Ukraine. Of the remaining 40% of students, about half are in conflict zones and half have reached or are on the way to the western border of Ukraine.
‘We have no more citizens in Kyiv’
Harshvardhan Shringla said, “All our citizens have left Kiev, according to the information we have, we have no more citizens in Kyiv, no one has contacted us from there.”
‘PM Modi expressed grief over the death of Naveen Shekharappa’
Shringla said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the death of an Indian national (Naveen Shekharappa, an Indian student killed in shelling in Kharkiv this morning). He said that we will take our citizens out of the conflict zone as soon as possible and bring back the body of Naveen Shekharappa, we are in touch with the local authority regarding this.
Sources in the Ministry of External Affairs also informed that humanitarian aid was sent from India to Ukraine today. Two tonnes of humanitarian aid including tents, blankets, surgical gloves, protective eye gear, water storage tanks, sleeping mats, tarpaulins and medicines were sent to Ukraine today, sources said.
The Foreign Secretary said that Prime Minister Modi had received a call from French President Emmanuel Macron. He also told that Prime Minister Modi has spoken to the President of Poland.
