Ali Fazal On Challenges Faced For Producing ‘Girls Will Be Girls’: ‘We Even Broke Our FDs…’


The true hallmark of a struggler who has made it big is their willingness to help fellow strugglers climb the ladder with fewer obstacles. One such initiative by actors Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal is their debut home production, Girls Will Be Girlsunder their banner Pushing Buttons Studios.

Directed by first-time filmmaker Shuchi Talati, the film features newcomers Preeti Panigrahi and Kesav Binoy Kiron in lead roles, alongside renowned actor Kani Kusruti.

In the latest edition of Screen LIVERicha and Ali discussed Girls Will Be Girlswhich has been making waves on the festival circuit and recently premiered digitally on Amazon Prime Video.

Highlighting the importance of creativity unbound by financial constraints during the ideation stage, Ali shared, “We are all from a country that is famous for its jugaad… its ability to figure out a way to get things done. Honestly, we asked for money from here and there, and even broke our FDs to fund Girls Will Be GirlsBut we managed. Now, it is getting a nice release, and many sections of audience are watching it. It is possible.”

Richa also emphasized the role of collaborations in bringing such ideas to life. “For instance, this film was edited in France. It received a grant because of the core idea of ​​the film,” she explained.

Ali further elaborated on the vision of their production house, saying, “Our place is open for collaborations, and would love to listen to a lot of ideas. We hope we can produce more films like these, and make it reach a wider audience.”
