Alex Carey on Tim David: Australia’s wicket-keeper batsman Alex Carey is a fan of Tim David’s explosive hitting in the T20 World Cup squad and has compared him to India’s Hardik Pandya and West Indies’ Kieron Pollard. Cricket Australia named David, born in Singapore and raised in Perth, as a replacement for Mitchell Swepson in the men’s World Cup squad announced on Thursday.
David has proved himself with his class performances in various leagues across the world and has made it to the 15-man Australian team. He is a natural striker with the bat and provides depth to the team’s batting.
The 26-year-old David was not much of a familiar name in Australian cricket but came into limelight after IPL team Mumbai Indians bought him for a whopping price of Rs 8.5 crore.
“I have played against him (David) in the Big Bash and I have seen his power hitting from behind the wicket. He has the ability to hit both sides of the field,” Carey said on SEN 1170 Breakfast on Friday.
Carey said, “In the media and the noise around Tim David, it is being said that he has the ability to hit sixes from the very first ball. Most of the players do not have such ability. In the last 12 to 24 months, his The bounce has been tremendous and he is going to take the world in the middle overs from a middle order batsman in the Big Bash.”
He said, “David is one of the best T20 batsmen in the world and can be compared to Hardik Pandya of India and Kieron Pollard and Andre Russell of West Indies who are tremendous hitters. Will give a headache to the management.” Australia will play its first match in the World Cup against New Zealand in Sydney on 22 October.
