Axar Patel Delhi Capitals Captain IPL 2025: Before the IPL 2025 mega auction, Delhi Capitals had retained a total of four players. The names of these 4 players are Akshar Patel, Tristan Stubbs, Abhishek Porel and Kuldeep Yadav. The date of auction is coming closer and after the release of Rishabh Pant, the biggest question is which player can the Delhi franchise make its captain. Now a media report has come out, in which it has been claimed that Akshar Patel has been made the captain of Delhi.
According to media reports, Axar Patel can take over the captaincy of Delhi Capitals in the upcoming season. Recall that in IPL 2024, when Rishabh Pant was suspended thrice from the match against RCB due to slow over-rate, Akshar Patel captained Delhi in place of Pant. Akshar Patel has been retained for Rs 16.5 crore for the upcoming season. Therefore he is also the most expensive player retained by Delhi. This is also an indication that the Delhi franchise is ready to repose confidence in Akshar.
Akshar Patel has become the star of Delhi
Akshar Patel has been playing for Delhi Capitals since 2019. He has played a total of 82 matches representing the DC franchise, in which he has 967 runs and 62 wickets to his name. He has achieved the most success in IPL while playing for Delhi. Earlier, apart from scoring 686 runs in 68 matches, he had also taken 61 wickets for Punjab Kings.
If Akshar Patel gets the captaincy of Delhi Capitals, then he will be the first all-rounder player of India to captain the Delhi team in IPL. James Hopes and JP Duminy are two all-rounder players who have captained Delhi but till now no Indian all-rounder has done so. Batsmen like Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir and legendary bowlers like Zaheer Khan have also taken charge of DC. But Akshar being an all-rounder player can create history by assuming the responsibility of captaincy.
