Air travel during festive and wedding season will cut your pocket, air fuel becomes expensive

ATF Price Hike: Due to the holy festival of Diwali and Chhath, air fares are skyrocketing. Now air travel may become even more expensive. Government oil marketing companies have also increased the prices of aviation fuel along with commercial LPG cylinders. From November 1, 2024, the price of Aviation Turbine Fuel i.e. ATF has been increased by 3.35 percent or 2941.5 kiloliters. In such a situation, those traveling by air are going to suffer further losses during the Chhath Puja and wedding season.

ATF costlier by 3.35 percent

Government oil companies had reduced the prices of ATF in the month of October, but in the month of November, citing the increase in crude oil prices, the prices of ATF have been increased. In the capital Delhi, the price of ATF has increased by Rs 2941 per kiloliter to Rs 90538.72 per kiloliter, which was Rs 87587.22 per kiloliter last month. That means ATF has now become costlier by 3.35 percent. The new price of ATF has become Rs 90538.72 per kiloliter in Delhi, Rs 93392 in Kolkata, Rs 84642 in Mumbai and Rs 93957 per kiloliter in Chennai.

The effect of expensive ATF can be seen immediately. Domestic airlines can make air travel expensive. Anyway, in the results of the second quarter of the current financial year 2024-25 presented by the largest airline IndiGo, there was a huge decline in the company’s profit due to expensive ATF. In such a situation, now the airlines can pass the burden of increase in ATF directly on the air passengers. Due to the weak rupee against the dollar along with expensive ATF, airlines can make air fares costlier as their operation costs are being affected. ATF prices account for about 40 percent of the total cost of airlines’ operations and its increase also increases the costs of the airlines.
