UP News: Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) president Jayant Chowdhary said on Friday that his party’s alliance with the Samajwadi Party (SP) would continue and the opposition would consider the possibility of an alliance with the Congress. “There is an alliance with the Samajwadi Party and it will continue,” Chowdhary, RLD president, told reporters here after launching the party’s 15-day ‘Samarsta Abhiyan’ from Baghpat. SP chief Akhilesh Yadav is already the Chief Minister of West Bengal and Trinamool Congress chief has supported Mamata Banerjee’s claim that her party will support the Congress in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections where it is strong.
Supporting Banerjee’s statement on opposition unity at the national level, Yadav had recently said that the party which is strong in the state should contest elections there. SP is maintaining a distance from the Congress party after contesting the 2017 UP assembly elections by joining the Congress alliance. However, the SP, the main opposition party in UP, did not field any candidate against the Congress in Rae Bareli and Amethi in the last parliamentary elections. The Congress also did not field its candidate against SP chief Akhilesh Yadav’s wife Dimple Yadav in the Mainpuri Lok Sabha bypoll last year.
While giving full credit to the workers for the success of RLD in the civic elections, Chaudhary said that neither he nor our big leaders came to campaign, but the workers themselves worked hard. Although the entire opposition failed to win any mayor’s seat in UP’s 17 municipal corporations, the SP and the RLD won a few posts in the Nagar Palika Parishad and Nagar Panchayat elections. Earlier, starting his 15-day ‘Samarsta Abhiyan’ from Baghpat in western Uttar Pradesh, Choudhary said that today the country needs unity. He said that Hindu-Muslim is nothing, we are all one and live in one country.
Addressing the harmony campaign and thanksgiving meeting at Jain Dharamshala Baghpat, he congratulated the party candidates who won the civic body elections and said that those who voted should be respected as well as those who did not vote. He advised the elected representatives to take the people of the city along with them, to get the development done in the city now. The RLD president said that according to the 2011 census, 28 percent people live in the city, which means that there was neither development in the villages nor did people get a chance to move forward, so people are migrating to the cities.
In such a situation, the responsibility of providing basic facilities to the local bodies increases. Taking the names of Chaudhary Charan Singh and Ajit Singh, Jayant said that he was sure that the people of Baghpat would give him the same blessings. RLD chief is the grandson of former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh and son of former Union Minister Chaudhary Ajit Singh. Senior RLD leader Raj Kumar Sangwan told that the end of the harmony campaign will be held in Chandpur and Bijnor on June 3. He said that the first phase of Samarsata Abhiyan was started on February 12 to celebrate the birth anniversary of Chaudhary Ajit Singh and now the second phase has started from Baghpat today. In the next 15 days, the campaign will be run in Dhanaura, Naugaon, Fatehpur Sikri, Agra Rural, Muradnagar, Modinagar, Bijnor and Chandpur in Western UP. Significantly, Chaudhary Ajit Singh had started the Samarsata Abhiyan and after his death, his son Jayant Chaudhary decided to continue the campaign.
