Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) seized 82.53 kg of cocaine in Delhi on Friday (15 November 2024). Its estimated price in the international market is said to be around Rs 900 crore. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, while giving information about this matter, said that this recovery shows the government’s commitment towards making India drug free.
According to Home Minister Shah, NCB adopted a ‘bottom-to-top’ approach in capturing drugs. When some quantity of drugs was seized from a courier center in Delhi, the entire network was busted on the basis of this. According to officials, this consignment of drugs was to be sent from Delhi to Australia and its main leader is a big hawala businessman based in Dubai, who is said to have considerable influence in Delhi.
Wires connected to Delhi, Ahmedabad and Sonipat
Investigation revealed that this consignment of drugs was first brought to Delhi from Ahmedabad and Sonipat. Police have arrested two accused, Lokesh Chopra and Awadhesh Yadav, in this case. This seizure is being said to be the largest ever seizure of ‘land based’ drugs in India, which is the result of constant vigilance and concrete planning of NCB in Delhi. NCB used modern technologies in this operation and tracked this consignment with utmost care. Home Minister Shah said that from many such operations it is becoming clear that the government is completely alert against drugs.
Drugs worth Rs 13,000 crore seized in October
This case has come to light at a time when last month on October 13, Delhi and Gujarat Police seized 518 kg of cocaine worth Rs 5,000 crore from Ankleshwar in Gujarat and arrested five people. On October 1, the Special Cell of Delhi Police had raided a warehouse in Mahipalpur and seized a consignment of 562 kg of cocaine and 40 kg of hydroponic marijuana. During the investigation on October 10, about 208 kg of additional cocaine was recovered from a shop in Ramesh Nagar, Delhi.
