Kerala Minor Girl Abortion: The Kerala High Court has allowed the abortion of a 15-year-old minor girl. Who was made pregnant by her brother. According to the Bar and Bench, the petition was filed by the father of the minor girl. While allowing abortion, the court said that if abortion is not allowed, various social and medical problems may arise.
Justice Ziyad Rehman AA said that according to the report of a medical board constituted to examine the girl, the continuation of the pregnancy beyond 32 weeks could cause serious damage to the social and mental health of the 15-year-old victim. He said that keeping in view the fact that the child born to her would be that of her real brother, various social and medical complications are likely to arise for her. In such circumstances, the permission sought for by the petitioner to terminate the pregnancy is inevitable.
“Chance of giving birth to a live child”
The court said that after considering the medical report, it is found that the girl is physically and mentally fit for abortion. Continuation of the pregnancy is likely to cause serious injury to her social and mental health. The court said that according to the medical board, there is a possibility of the girl giving birth to a live child. Justice Rehman said that in such a situation, I allow the petitioner’s daughter to undergo medical abortion.
Next hearing will be on May 19
The court listed the matter for hearing after a week from May 19. The court said that a report regarding the completion of the process should be presented before the court on the next date. The Court directed the District Medical Officer and the Superintendent of the Government Medical College Hospital to take immediate steps to medically terminate the pregnancy of the minor girl without any delay.
