Jammu Kashmir News: The Transport Department of Jammu and Kashmir has allocated about Rs 15 crore to purchase government vehicles for the newly elected MLAs. Mahindra Scorpio will be purchased for 90 MLAs with this money. In the order issued by Transport Department Secretary Neeraj Kumar, it was said that an amount of Rs 14.85 crore will be withdrawn from the account of State Motor Garage.
Actually, these Scorpios will be purchased for the newly elected MLAs under the e-tendering process, which will be released on the government’s e-market place platform. In this order, Direct Motor Garage has also been asked to ensure that this money is spent only on the purchase of vehicles. Let us tell you, this time out of 90 newly elected MLAs in Jammu and Kashmir, 76 are crorepatis.

According to the report of Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR), 27 MLAs fall in the range of Rs 1 to Rs 5 crore, while 14 MLAs have assets less than Rs 1 crore. State Congress President Tariq Hameed Karra and BJP leader Devendra Singh Rana are among the richest MLAs with assets worth more than Rs 100 crore.
Tariq Hameed Karra, elected from Central Shalteng seat, has declared assets worth Rs 148 crore and is the richest MLA. BJP leader Devendra Rana, who won from Nagrota constituency of Jammu district, is in second place with assets worth Rs 126 crore. Whereas, Mehraj Malik, who became MLA from Doda on Aam Aadmi Party ticket, is the poorest MLA of Jammu and Kashmir with assets worth only Rs 29,070. He is the first MLA of AAP in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Assembly has been restored in Jammu and Kashmir after almost 6 years. The Assembly was dissolved by the then Governor Satpal Malik in November 2018 after the fall of the then PDP-BJP coalition government in June 2018. After this, elections have been held and the oath taking ceremony of the newly elected MLAs took place only on last Monday.
