Delhi News: The Customs Department has arrested a youth at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI Airport Delhi). This young man was returning from Riyadh. The Customs Department has recovered 467 grams of gold from the passenger hailing from Uttar Pradesh.
The young man was bringing gold by hiding it inside the tea maker. The customs department caught him while crossing the green channel.
X-ray machine failed the entire plan
The young man had made a complete plan to trick the customs department also. In the initial investigation, the Customs Department also did not find anything suspicious. But after checking with X-ray machine, metal was detected. The young man had hidden 3 silver coated metal pieces inside a metallic flask. Apart from this, he had kept a silver coated metal piece hidden inside the tea container. The value of the recovered gold is around Rs 35 lakh.
On December 17, Customs had recovered gold worth Rs 50 lakh.
Earlier, on December 17, the Customs Department had arrested a woman at Indira Gandhi International Airport itself. The Custom Department had seized gold worth Rs 50 lakh from the woman. However, the Customs Department team was shocked to know the method of gold smuggling. The woman had hidden the gold in her rectum. The woman first converted the gold into paste, then put it in a tablet and hid it in the rectum. However, the woman had admitted to gold smuggling.
According to Delhi Customs, based on profiling, Airport Customs officials of Terminal-3 of the airport have registered a case of gold smuggling against an Indian female passenger who reached Terminal-3 on December 15 by Air India flight from Kathmandu, Nepal.
