A new twist in the Champions Trophy controversy, T20 format tournament may take place instead of ODI.

2025 ICC Champions Trophy T20 Format: The issue of Champions Trophy has not been resolved yet. Pakistan is hosting the tournament. Reportedly the tournament is to start from February 19, but the official schedule has not been released yet. Meanwhile, the news that came out is shocking, in which it was told that the tournament can be T20 format instead of ODI.

According to ICC guidelines, the tournament schedule should have been announced 100 days in advance. If the Champions Trophy will start from February 19, 2025, then the schedule should have been announced by November 12, 2024. Let us tell you that after India’s refusal the schedule is getting delayed. Actually, Team India has refused to tour Pakistan for the Champions Trophy. Talks are also going on about hybrid model for the tournament. Now only after the schedule is released, it will be known where the matches of the tournament will be held.

Tournament can be held in T20 format

According to the report of Cricbuzz, the Champions Trophy dispute could not be resolved till today i.e. 11th December, as was already predicted. We are now only 75 days away from the Champions Trophy 2025 and stakeholders fear that no solution will be found soon. Therefore a big decision can be taken. The tournament being held in ODI format for a long time can be converted into T20 format.

However, the thing to note is that this is nothing new. Earlier it was reported that the Champions Trophy will be held in T20 format from the next edition, but due to the BCCI-PCB dispute, it may happen only next year. However, no official information has been revealed regarding this matter yet. Now it will be interesting to see in which format the tournament will be organised.
