The tension between Ukraine and Russia for several months has now turned into a war. Meanwhile the Prime Minister Narendra Modi talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. PM Modi has spoken to the President of Russia at a time when the number of deaths after the shelling, air strikes between Russia and Ukraine is increasing.
President Putin briefed the Prime Minister on the recent developments regarding Ukraine. The prime minister reiterated his longstanding conviction that differences between Russia and the NATO grouping can only be resolved through honest dialogue. Appealing for peace, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for an immediate end to the violence and called on all sides to make concerted efforts to return to the path of diplomatic dialogue.
The Prime Minister also apprised the Russian President of India’s concerns regarding the safety of Indian citizens, especially students, in Ukraine and conveyed that India accords top priority to their safe exit and return to India. The two leaders agreed that their officials and diplomatic teams would maintain regular contact on issues of topical interest.
Ahead of PM Modi’s talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Foreign Secretary Harsh Shringla said that the security of Indians in Ukraine is a priority. He said that Indians trapped in Ukraine will be able to return via Poland.
Prime Minister before Narendra Modi Chaired the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS). External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Hardeep Puri and NSA Ajit Doval and many other senior officials were present in the meeting. The Indian Embassy has set up camps on the border of Poland and Ukraine.
Many countries around the world are condemning Russia’s actions in Ukraine. At the same time, curfew has been imposed in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that the Russian military wants to capture the Chernobyl nuclear plant. He said that we are protecting by giving our lives.
Russia and Ukraine have different claims. Russia says it is targeting only military bases, while Ukraine says that civilians have also been killed in Russia’s attack. Nothing can be said about whether Russia’s war with Ukraine can have any effect on India. America and other western countries are continuously imposing sanctions on Russia. Russia is still India’s oldest and most trusted partner. From assault rifles, fighter planes, helicopters, warships and even nuclear submarines, Russia has given India.
