Tensions between Russia and Ukraine are not taking the name of reduction. Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the deployment of his troops, while recognizing the independence of separatist regions of eastern Ukraine. In an address to the country, Putin recognized the two cities separated from eastern Ukraine, Donetsk and Luhansk, as independent. 150,000 Russian soldiers are camping on the borders of Ukraine. But even so far Putin has not explicitly ordered the attack.
First understand Russia and Ukraine
Even if Russia attacks Ukraine, it will be a loss-making deal for it. Ukraine has been struggling with a bad situation for a long time. Its population is continuously decreasing. Ukraine ranks 112 out of 116 in terms of corruption. Ukraine has no natural resources other than agricultural land. Russia has 10 times more natural gas reserves than Ukraine. It is the largest exporter of wheat.
Now it is clear that Ukraine has nothing that Russia wants to capture. Neither he has youth nor industry nor any natural resource. Then why is Russia intent on attacking Ukraine? Actually, three fears of Putin are being told behind this.
What are Putin’s fears?
Putin wants to stop the expansion of NATO in Ukraine. He wants to destroy America’s dream of overthrowing Russian rule and its pro-democracy. This is Russia’s biggest concern. Third, Putin wants to strengthen his bargaining position as an energy provider for China as well as Europe.
If Europe supports the US plan to expand NATO in Ukraine, then problems will arise for Russia. At this time China and Russia are also very close. Russia is negotiating a 10% increase in its gas shipments to China through a new pipeline. The project is expected to be completed by 2026.
