Cases of human metapneumovirus (HMPV) virus are increasing rapidly in China. Cases of this virus have been found in many states of India also. Amidst all this, China has given a shocking statement on HMPV virus. China says that this virus is not new. It has been circulating in humans for 60 years.
When China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun was asked about the increasing cases of HMPV virus in China, he said that they are in constant touch with WHO regarding this virus. He said, the Chinese government is taking the health of its people and tourists from abroad seriously. But this virus is not new. It has been spreading among humans for 60 years.
7 cases so far in India
Talking about India, so far 7 cases of HMPV have been reported in the country including Karnataka (2), Gujarat (1) and Tamil Nadu (2). All cases were found in children between 3 months and 13 years of age. After cases coming to light in many states, the Indian government has also geared up. The government has asked all the states to be cautious and alert regarding this virus.
No need to panic – expert
Experts believe that there is no need to panic due to this. On how dangerous this virus is, pulmonologist Dr. Vikas Mittal, director of CK Birla Hospital, said, this is not a new virus. It is mainly associated with mild respiratory diseases. Recently, a case of a three-month-old child was found in Karnataka who was infected with this virus. The child was also discharged from the hospital. This case shows that the disease caused by this virus usually causes mild symptoms. It is not more dangerous than the Covid-19 virus.
