WHO On HMPV: Cases of HMPV have been reported in many states of India. This virus is especially affecting children. Till now many children have fallen prey to it. WHO said that it is in touch with Chinese health officials and there is no pressure on the health service system in China. Also, no emergency declaration has been made. WHO said that there have been no reports of unusual outbreak patterns. The statement said, “WHO is monitoring respiratory diseases at global, regional and country levels through support systems and providing updates as needed.”
This virus is spreading in China
China has released figures till December 29, 2024. Based on that, there has been an increase in acute respiratory infections in recent weeks and there has also been an increase in the detection of seasonal influenza, rhinovirus and HMPV, especially in the northern provinces of China.
On this, the World Health Organization said that although there has been an increase in the identification of respiratory patients, it is still within the range of the disease occurring every year during winter in the Northern Hemisphere.
What was said in the report released regarding HMPV?
A recent report on the virus states, “hMPV is a common respiratory virus that spreads from winter to spring in many countries, although not all countries routinely test and publish data on hMPV trends.” Although some cases may require hospitalization with bronchitis or pneumonia, most people infected with HMPV have mild symptoms similar to the common cold and recover after a few days.” WHO also said that surveillance and laboratory data for HMPV are not routinely available from all countries.
