Mumbai Police arrested a Bangladeshi: Mumbai’s Cuffe Parade Police has arrested a Bangladeshi citizen who had entered Mumbai through the Donkey Route 34 years ago. Sources said that the accused Bangladeshi citizen is a resident of Chittagong. His name is Moin Hayat Badshah Shaikh Saal.
An official said that he had entered India illegally at the age of just 17. Since then he has moved between India and Bangladesh several times. Police said that the Anti Terrorist Cell (ATC) had received information that a Bangladeshi citizen has been living here in South Mumbai for many years. After this, DCP Zone-1 Praveen Mundhe formed a team, this team took Moin into custody after investigation. During investigation, it was revealed that the accused had come to India through the Donkey route and now he also has an Indian Voter ID, using which he had also voted in the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.
Many documents found from the accused
Not only this, the police have also recovered India’s Aadhaar card, PAN card, Voter ID and driving license from Sheikh. Investigation revealed that when Sheikh came to Mumbai for the first time in 1990, he started teaching Urdu and Quran to children in Mumbra, Kurla, Govandi and Parel. However, he does not have a passport. Sheikh also owns a house in Ambedkar Nagar, Cuffe Parade, where he lives with his family. He last visited Bangladesh in 2021.
Along with hotel, he also did coaching work.
Police said that the accused Shaikh used to do cleaning work in a hotel and used to teach children in the adjacent hall. He used to take two thousand rupees from them. During interrogation, Shaikh revealed that he used to send money in rupees to his friend in Bangladesh, whose friend used to convert the rupees into Bangladeshi currency Taka.
First used to go to Kolkata and then Chittagong
Sheikh told the police that he used to go from Mumbai to Kolkata to go to Bangladesh. For this he used to take flights. Then from there with the help of an agent he would reach Chittagong. The police presented the accused in the court on Saturday (21 December 2024), from where he has been sent to police custody till 24 December.
