TRAI has decided to provide relief to 120 crore mobile users of the country from fake calls. The telecom regulator has recently made major changes in the rules of commercial communication to curb spam calls and messages. Now the telecom regulator is going to bring a new DND (Do-Not-Disturb) app for mobile users, through which users will be able to stop commercial calls and messages coming on their phones.
Increasing fake calls will be controlled
The regulator has taken this decision in view of the increasing frauds being committed through fake calls and messages in recent times. If reports are to be believed, this app of TRAI can be launched next year. The telecom regulator has asked all stakeholders to explore the technical feasibility of the new AI features of the DND app. The app will be launched after two months of completing the technical feasibility by the stakeholders.
After the launch of AI spam filter by telecom companies, about 800 entities and more than 18 lakh mobile numbers have been blocked. Telecom operators are blocking fake calls at the network level through AI filters. TRAI believes that this blocking should also happen at the user level, for which it is necessary to upgrade the DND app.
Will benefit from the new DND app
At present, users can set their commercial communication preferences through the DND app. Apart from this, users can report any spam call but this action will be taken at the level of service providers. Unsolicited commercial communication can be controlled through the new DND app.
TRAI launched its DND app in 2016. This app was launched to stop fake calls, but this app could not attract many users. TRAI is now going to upgrade this app, so that more and more mobile users can get its benefit. Not only this, the telecom regulator has recently made several changes in the policy to curb fake calls and messages.
