Jammu Kashmir Weather: The minimum mercury dropped due to the first snowfall of the season in the plains of Kashmir. There was severe cold in the entire valley on Friday. Cold wave is forecast for the next four days. The Meteorological Department said that the night temperature dropped after snowfall in the heights and plains. According to officials, the temperature in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, was minus two degrees Celsius on Thursday night.
Last night the temperature in Srinagar was recorded at minus 0.5 degrees. He told that there was severe cold in Gulmarg Valley, a major tourist destination in North Kashmir. Here the mercury dropped to minus 9.6 degrees Celsius. Last night the temperature of Gulmarg Valley was recorded at minus 5.2 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department said that Pahalgam, the base camp of Amarnath Yatra in South Kashmir, had the coldest night of the season on Thursday. The night temperature here was recorded at minus 9.4 degrees Celsius.
Severe cold after the first snowfall of the season
At the same time, last night the temperature was recorded at minus 4.6 degrees Celsius. Qazigund, which is the gateway to Kashmir, recorded a minimum temperature of minus 1.4 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature was recorded at minus 2.5 degrees Celsius in Kupwara in North Kashmir and minus 1.8 degrees Celsius in Kokernag in South Kashmir.
Weather will worsen due to cold wave in next four days
Officials said the higher reaches including Gulmarg and the popular tourist destinations of Sonamarg, Tangmarg, Gurez and Zojila received light to moderate snowfall on Thursday. He said that some areas of the plains of Shopian, Pulwama and Baramulla as well as the upper areas of Anantnag, Budgam and Bandipora also received light snowfall. The Meteorological Department said that there is a possibility of further decline in the minimum temperature of Kashmir Valley. There will be cold wave conditions at many places during the next four days.
