Meerapur Bypoll Election 2024: Now only a few more days are left for the by-elections to be held on 9 assembly seats of Uttar Pradesh, before which the political heat has increased in the state. This time everyone’s eyes are fixed on Meerapur assembly seat. Meerapur by-election seems to be repeating the 15 year old story.
After declaring the candidates for Meerapur seat through all the parties, pages started turning on the old political equations here. This time in the elections, some characters are new and some are old, but a political family of Meerapur is in the center point this time. Because of this the competition here is becoming interesting.
Tough challenge before Rana family
If we look at the old pages of the history of politics, after last 15 years an interesting election story starts flashing before our eyes. Meerapur seat was known as Morna Assembly in the year 2009. Qadir Rana was elected MLA from Morna in the 2007 assembly elections.
However, in the 2009 elections, BSP made Qadir Rana its candidate from Muzaffarnagar Lok Sabha and he was elected MP. When this seat became vacant, Qadir Rana fielded his brother Noor Salim Rana from Morana, where he faced RLD candidate Mithlesh Pal.
Mithlesh Pal gave a crushing defeat to Noor Salim Rana in the by-election. This time again Mithlesh Pal is in the fray from RLD, while this time Qadir Rana’s daughter-in-law Sumbul Rana is in the fray in front of him. Mithlesh Pal is going to face the Rana family once again on Meerapur seat.
RLD bet on Mithlesh Pal
Jayant Chaudhary has fielded Mithlesh Pal as per a well-planned strategy. Mithlesh Pal has been MLA from RLD in 2009. As soon as Samajwadi Party declared Sumbul Rana, daughter-in-law of former MP and powerful leader Kadir Rana, as its candidate, RLD chief Jayant Chaudhary also revealed his cards.
After this strategy of Jayant Chaudhary, the political fight has become very interesting with two women facing each other in the field of Meerapur. SP is dreaming of victory by wooing backward people and minorities with its PDA formula, while RLD is trying to capture Meerapur seat with the help of its and BJP’s strong vote bank.
MP Chandan Chauhan repeated history
In politics, history also repeats its old cycles. In the year 1996, Sanjay Chauhan won the Morna Assembly elections from Samajwadi Party and became MLA. After this, in 2009, Sanjay Chauhan was elected MP of Bijnor from BJP-RLD alliance.
This old story of politics was repeated again in 2022. Chandan Chauhan was elected MLA from the Morna seat from where his father was elected MLA, i.e. the seat known as Meerapur. In 2024, Chandan Chauhan was elected MP from Bijnor Lok Sabha under RLD BJP alliance and now Meerapur seat is vacant.
Strong stake of every candidate in Meerapur
SP’s Sumbul Rana’s claim of victory in Meerapur is quite strong. RLD BJP candidate Mithlesh Pal is also claiming victory. On the other hand, BSP candidate Shah Nazar and Azad Samaj Party candidate Zahid Hasan are also contesting from here.
AIMIM has made Arshad Rana its candidate from Mirapur seat. All these candidates are confident of hoisting the victory flag while claiming victory. However, the crown of victory will rest on one person and the people of Meerapur will decide who will be the lucky one.
