Beijing: Brazil has given a big blow to China. Dealing a blow to China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) plan, Brazil has decided not to join Beijing’s billion-dollar initiative. Thus, it has become the second country in the BRICS group after India, which has not supported this huge project.
Brazil will not join BRI
Celso Amorim, special adviser to Brazilian President Lula da Silva, has said that Brazil will not join the BRI, but will instead seek alternative ways to partner with Chinese investors. He told Brazilian newspaper O Globo that Brazil “wants to take relations with China to a new level, without signing any contracts.” “We are not making any treaties,” Amorim said.

Officials from Brazil’s economy and foreign ministries recently opposed the idea, according to the newspaper.
India’s stand is clear
India has already made clear its concerns over BRI, especially regarding the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) being built in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. India also says that the BRI project is against international laws and principles. (Language)
