Alia Bhatt’s recently released film ‘Jigra’ and Divya Khossla Kumar’s film ‘Savi’ were in talks because of their similar storyline. While ‘Savi’ was released in May this year, Jigra was released on Friday with a mixed review. Divya Khossla Kumar has stirred the controversy further by sharing a photo of an empty theatre, claiming that the screenings of Alia’s Jigra are attracting little to no audience.
What Divya Khossla Kumar said about Alia Bhatt’s Jigra
Divya took to her Instagram stories and wrote, “Went to Citi Mall PVR for Jigra show. Theater was totally empty… all theaters going empty everywhere. #Aliabhatta is really very #Jigra.. he himself bought tickets and announced fake collections. Wonder why paid media is silent. #weshdnotfooltheaudience #truthoverlies #HappyDussehra Х (sic).”
Divya sarcastically praised Alia with the phrase “Sach Mein Bahut Jigra Hai,” accusing her of inflating the box office numbers of ‘Jigra’ by allegedly buying tickets herself to boost the film’s reported collections.
‘Savi’ revolves around a housewife’s attempt to break her husband out of a high-security prison in England, drawing inspiration from the Savitri and Satyavan mythology. In Jigra, Alia Bhatt’s character is on a mission to rescue her brother from prison in a similar jailbreak plot.
Divya on similarities between Savi and Jigra
Divya had recently addressed the comparisons between the two films. While she acknowledged the similarities in plot, Divya expressed gratitude for exploring the genre first with Savi, which features Harshvardhan Rane and Anil Kapoor.
“Yes, I too have been getting this question a lot from the media, the industry and the trade that ‘Savi’ and ‘Jigra’ are seeming very similar, the plot and everything. Well, I would just like to say that with the love of the audience and the grace of God that ‘Savi’ has proved its worth totally on its own merits. We had a very good run in theaters and OTT too and we topped the charts in various countries. And yes, our film was based on jailbreak– how a simple housewife attempts a jailbreak to get her husband out of the prison. journey to it and sometimes two production houses can make a film on a similar plot,” she told IANS.
Divya further said, “And I am just grateful that I got the opportunity to explore this genre first. I would not like to comment further on it.
Meanwhile, Jigra has collected Rs 4.55 crore in India on its opening day.
