Tamil Nadu Train Accident: A major train accident took place in Tamil Nadu late night on Friday (11 October). Here, Mysore Darbhanga Bagmati Express train (12578), going from Mysore to Darbhanga in Bihar, collided with a goods train near Kavarappettai railway station near Chennai. So far 19 people have been injured in this accident.
The Railway Board has said that no one has died in the collision between an express train and a goods train in the Ponneri Kavarapettai section of Chennai Railway Division.
Know why the collision occurred
Southern Railway said train number 12578 Mysuru Dibrugarh Darbhanga Express with LHB coaches was given green signal to proceed after crossing Ponneri station in Tiruvallur district at 8.27 pm on October 11, but “it stopped at Kavarapettai station”. While entering, the train crew experienced a sharp shock and instead of moving into the main line as per the signal, the train went into the ‘loopline’ at a speed of 75 kilometers per hour and collided with a goods train parked there.
Dilip Kumar, Executive Director of Information and Publicity of Railway Board, gave the information.
Regarding this incident, Dilip Kumar, Executive Director, Information and Publicity (ED/IP), Railway Board, said, “We received information about the train accident. After that, relief work was started rapidly. All the passengers from the entire train were evacuated. No passenger has been seriously injured. Special arrangements are being made to take all the passengers to their destination.
Arrangements for new train for passengers
Giving the latest information about the relief work, Dilip Kumar, Executive Director, Information and Publicity Department, Railway Board, said, ‘We are taking all the passengers by EMU to Chennai Central and to take them to Darbhanga/other destinations at a bus stop in Chennai. Train arrangements have been made.” He said that free food, water and snacks have been provided to the passengers.

Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin met the passengers injured in the train accident, who are undergoing treatment at the Accident and Emergency Department of the government-run Stanley Medical College Hospital in Chennai. Repair work is going on at Ponneri Kavarappettai railway stations (46 km from Chennai) of Chennai division, where train number 12578 Mysore Darbhanga Express collided with a goods train from behind yesterday evening.
