Shardiya Navratri has special significance from religious point of view. It is believed that during this time Goddess Bhagwati arrives on earth and travels on earth for 9 days.
Shardiya Navratri has started from 3rd October this year and will continue till 11th October. On the first day of Navratri, Kalash is established in every house from temple and puja-pandal and barley is sown.
It is believed that Navratri worship is not considered complete without sowing barley, hence people sow barley on this day. But Dr. Anish Vyas, Director of Pal Balaji Astrology Institute, Jaipur, Jodhpur, tells that on this day you can sow other things along with jowar. This will also bring happiness and prosperity to the house.
According to Anish Vyas, sowing barley during Navratri is considered very auspicious. Many types of indications are given by the growth of barley and its color etc. in 9 days. Also, sowing barley is a sign that the blessings of Goddess Annapurna will remain at home and there will be no shortage of grains along with money.
But if due to some reason you cannot sow jowar or barley, you can also sow Durva at this time. Sowing Durva at this time is also auspicious. With this, one gets the blessings of Goddess Bhagwati as well as Lord Ganesha.
You can sow a small Tulsi plant near the place of worship during Durva as well as Navratri. When Navratri is over, keep this plant at home and worship it daily. This also maintains auspiciousness at home.
